Test

Image

I wanted to make a table using books and a CNC machine.  This is the test I made to see if it was possible to cut books with a CNC.  The test was successful.  The books require a lot (A LOT) of compression to resist the force of the CNC.

The test created a landscape that carved into the books revealing a different relationship between the books and a new relationship of the contents of the books to the surface.  The colours – weathering, dyes, etc – of the books are stripped away creating a material uniformity on the surface that is interrupted by the book covers.

Hammer

Hammer

This hammer was made as part of a design studio. The handle is walnut and lather turned. The head is maple and the two are held together with a friction fit and small dowels.

Box

Box

This is a box I made using 1/4 inch MDF and a laser cutter. The vertical wall is a single piece of material made flexible through a living hinge system, sninge, made through a sequence of regular cuts in the material.
